Normalising annealing
Normalising, also called normalising, is used to eliminate structural irregularities. The material is brought to a temperature above the transformation point. The pipe bends are then cooled in a controlled manner. This process produces a more uniform and finer microstructure. Some materials require subsequent “tempering” in a temperature range of 700-780°C.
Stress-relief annealing
Stress-relief annealing is used to reduce stresses that arise during deformation from the pipe to the pipe bend. Here, too, the elbows are heated to a certain temperature, depending on the material, but not quite as high as in normalising. Subsequently, they are cooled down in the air.
Solution annealing
In solution annealing, pipe elbows made of austenitic steel are heated to a temperature of between 1020°C and 1080°C. They are then rapidly cooled down in a water bath.
